'...Covered in rust...'; an alloy body (and it looks like alloy wings, too) so there can't have been that much rust! _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

I assume the price being thrown around (it's just been mentioned on "North West Tonight") are including the buyers premium, as it was knocked down on the day at £395k. The BBC just said over £450k, but H&H say £444k. |

Also the way I heard it is the car was not known about, surely the clubs etc would have known of it as it is one of only 6 produced? _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

When I saw it in the garage it was found in, I sent the photo my mate took to a "Vintage Bentleys" web site. The most recent information they had on the car was a photo from a rally in 1974. The owner had written some articles for a magazine about changes he'd made to the car, but there was no reference on this particular site.
If you have a look from around 16m in on this otherwise-terrible TV programme, you can see the owner talking about the car, and also see the Daimler that was also sold yesterday, in the part-completed garage: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6iph38
I suppose "not known" covers a lot of bases. |

I don't understand the old car market...In the same sale, my immaculate RHD 3.5 litre coach built Dodge Brothers tourer from 1926 with recent engine overhaul and loads of spares didn't even reach the £12K reserve.!
I have subsequently all but given it away.
Easy come, easy go. |

Seems to be the way with American cars of the 20s, being mass-produced keeps the prices pegged quite low, certainly compared to similarly-spec'd British cars of the same age.

I would have thought a RHD version with hand built coachwork things might be different - but apparently not. |
