|
|
After the First World War where my grandfather drove ambulances in France, he became chauffeur to a wealthy landowner in Lancashire. I have two photographs of him with the cars he drove (attached here as a single composite photograph with his house in the background) and would love to find out what the two cars are. All I know is that the photo was taken sometime mid-1920s to mid-1930s. The grandson of his employer told me he remembers his grandfather having a Siddeley Deasy. That's all I know so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Simon,
I think the one on the right is a 1928 Hillman 14.

Gosh, that’s very quick - thank you. Any thoughts about the one on the left? |

Simon, The left hand one has much of the shape of a 1927 Morris- first of the flat radiator models. _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

I suspect the car on the left is much older than a flat-rad Morris; the tyres look to be too narrow, almost certainly beaded-edge. I don't recognise the body, it's probably a coach-built body which could have been fitted to almost anything in the 1 1/2 litre sort of size car. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

Probably not a very good guess but how about a 1923 Hillman Coupe?

Oh, I like both those suggestions but the Hillman Coupe looks very close to me. I really appreciate the help I'm getting with this. I'm writing the 'history' of my Grandparents for my children and grandchildren so it will be really good to identify these rather than just say something like "Walter standing with two cars".
Cheers. |
