My De Walt heat gun has stopped working ...and it's not the fuse or the thermal cut out.
Please can anyone help me fix it?
The switch (small black block with two red wires and a white wire attached) tests "live" when switched on.
That is as far as I have got. |

Good luck with it, Ray... I had a De Walt heat gun on which the motor died soon after the warranty expired. Ended up replacing it with a cheapy Titan one from Screwfix that has outlasted the De Walt model several times over |

probably not worth reparing sadly, unless you can do it yourself, finding someone to do it would be hard i reckon |

Irony is that I went for the DeWalt because I fell for the "quality brand" mantra.
Old habits die hard.
If I knew what to look for perhaps there is an easy fix.?
Unfortunately, I am like a fish out of water where electrics is concerned. I just hoped I would find a broken wire or something similar. |

Have you contacted the maker, agent or seller to see if they can help. Sometimes you can be lucky especially if you give them a bad report on one of the websites. |

A long shot, but I'd remove all the dust on the PCB and particularly on the potentiometer, presumably the pot controls the temp setting? the debris may be causing false resistances.
The PCB by the top left resistor looks a bit black? (2nd pic where the PCB is angled) has that resistor overheated, a quick check with a meter would confirm that the resistors are not o/c you could also check the diodes.
Also check for dry or fractured joints on the PCB.

I have cleaned the dust away but no change.
What I have found is current passing through the two resistors in the corner (where the power enters) but not the one set at a right angle to them. I guess this is the problem. It has 9K printed on the PCB.
I don't know if this is the cause or just a symptom.? |
