It is not a bad idea to filter your paint; just to be on the safe side ...but this is just beyond a joke.



To be fair, the suppliers have sent me another tin but this sort of thing must be happening to other people ....or is it just me?

The good news is that the new tin has some decent paint in it. However, I am still getting the occasional tiny black fleck or white pin point through the gun ... just enough to wind me up.. Despite flatting, these imperfections seldom disappear. Fortunately, cellulose is more forgiving than other paints and before it sets hard I am able to hook out the black fleck with the point of a scalpel and fill the tiny hole with paint. The area can then be flatted and compounded to perfection.

Many people would not bother; it is not very noticeable but I am just not happy with second rate.

Another issue I have been having is the occasional tiny hive of paint that spoils the finish. Again, this is removed and filled. It all takes time but then I am not working in very good conditions and although serviceable, my equipment is less than ideal.

I may have been unfairly blaming the paint for the black specks. I now think they are tiny bits of rubber which have come through the air line. I bought a new 15M hose and snap connectors to go with a new spray gun. (All Clarke products). Hopefully, this is just a temporary problem. I do hope so because I have discarded the packaging so I can't take it back to Machine Mart.

I seem to be getting more than my fair share of set backs ...but perhaps everyone has this kind of aggravation?.

They fit in the gun paint pot, so won't get in the way and only cost a couple of quid.
There are 2 different sorts, 1 for gravity fed guns and another for suction.

Your local paint supply will stock them.

I have noticed the black specks - there are only one or two of them now - smear if you try to wipe it off, so they can't be rubber particles... but I suppose they could be oil contaminants from the compressor?

It could, of course, still be in the paint?

I am going to have to live with it I guess.

I am now sure the problem is rubbish paint. The latest issue is little white specks that show up when flattening. There are not that many of these pin head size white specks but they show up against the red. I don't know exactly what they are; then again, I don't really care. I just know that when they are exposed it causes a problem.

I don't like making a nuisance of myself but I am getting frustrated with this job and may well complain to NTG. AGAIN!

I’d spray a small test piece, take it round to show the paint shop, they will know how they mixed it and what when in so should be able to identify the problem.

It may be a rouge tint, perhaps one that’s not used often and has some contamination?
