When checking for a warped surface with a straight edge and feeler gauge how many thou would you consider too much.
For example on a cast exhaust manifold I would have it skimmed if it exceeds 4-5 thou but wondered if I am being too fussy and in reality a gasket would take up more clearance.
I would just rather it was right first time and not have a problem develop again even if it were to be a few years later. _________________ Dave

With an exhaust manifold the biggest issue is getting the mating surfaces to make equal contact with all the ports as heat causes distortion.
Get the surface as flat as possible using engineers blue to highlight the areas that need flatting. |
