Certainly a mid-thirties big Austin: either an Eighteen, in which case it's a Hertford, or a Twenty, in which case it could be a Mayfair, Chalfont or York! I think the car in the photo probably has five bonnet vents, in which case I think that means it's a Twenty - the Mayfair was the long-wheelbase limousine, whilst the Chalfont and York were on the 'shorter' wheelbase, with and without division. I don't think there is any way of differentiating them on this photo. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

Thanks Mike - one small nugget of extra info re the seating may help!?:
"Very much appreciated that your taking your time to help me. I know it's not a great photo, but if you look at the door handles and there was a seat that came down behind the front seats, and big foot wells. Hopefully this helps. It's number plate may help to, BOT 702. " _________________ Rick - Admin

No, Rick, they all had occasional seats as standard; but looking more closely I don't think there's a division, so that almost certainly makes it a Twenty York.
edit: My mistake, the Mayfair was the only option on the Twenty, the Chalfont and York were both Eighteens:
I still think the significant feature is the lack of division, so I'm going with an Eighteen York!
Second edit!: I've just noticed the car in the photo has a sunroof (note the drain just above the girl's head); I don't think a Chalfont - or a Mayfair for that matter - (with division) would have had a sunroof, so I think that confirms it's a York. _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

A piece of useless information: The late Alan Clark owned an SS 100 that was registered BOT 862. If memory serves me correctly its first owner was a jewler and had all the normally chrome parts silver plated.

Close!
The tree is in Stanley Park, Vancouver, British Columbia, I believe.
I don't see any steam, though. _________________ Mike - MVPeters at comcast.net

Edwardian American cars are not my strong point, but if I had to put a name to it, I'd go for a 1908/09 Chalmers Detroit. Certainly a quality of car of that period; by 1910-11 I would expect it to be fitted with detachable rims, so pre-1910 ... _________________ in the garage: 1938 Talbot Ten Airline

I would concur, have seen many of the "drive through" vandalism and in various images the lower right of the tree fits with Stanley Park.
This particular tree was never a "drive through" but was damaged over the years, including at least two fires.

So... next is the car, then the year and the occupants ? |
