I have "aquired" 2 of these Arnot superchargers...one is still buried at the back of my garage but i pulled this one out today... a few questions.
What would it fit...does the code stamped into it reveal what it was designed for?
Both are in great condition...if a bit grubby because they were stored in a very oily rag.

Good grief, john-saab, its a long time since I've seen one of those!
Back in the day, Arnotts (in England at least), were generally fitted to competition motorcycles, especially Sprinters.
Early versions were also fitted to things like Austin 7's, MG T-Series and so on. Later, a larger version was popular-ish on VW Beetles.
As a bit of a curiosity, James Bond had one fitted to his Continental, in the book at least!!
Biggest problem (from memory) used to be that the vanes wore!
Hope this is of some help.

Now there's a bit of history - I notice even the seals are still intact.
Only from what I have read, I've never had hands-on experience with these items, superchargers like this were of a series type rather than a specific type. What I mean by that is a (if it was called this) Series 1 Arnott Supercharger it would be suitable for vehicles with an engine size up to 1000cc, Series 2 suitable for engines up to 3000cc, etc, etc.
The important parts would be the individual fittings that would adapt the supercharger to fit say a Ford Anglia, or a Morris 1000, and on.
Nevertheless, having one is a great find, but two! I would reckon there'd be a few folks out there that would be very interested if you were thinking about selling one of them - eBay springs to mind. |

Thats why i was asking...so that i could list them and aim them at the right market.
Both were thrown into a scrap metal bin..and i pulled them out before they hit the bottom
Whats even more amazing is that i have the oilers that go with these...and they have a bag of attachments tied to them..photos to come.
Now heres the interesting bit...these were found in a box that also contained some of Leslie Ballamys bits and bobs ... a few air intakes and 2 wood "forms" used in the casting prosess for a side valve engine...i believe that Leslie was developing his own engine and these were experimental projects..now theres history. Again i will get a few pics of the "forms" |
