I'd love to know if it's still there. Hope it hasn't been scrapped (usual story, elderly owner dies, relatives call the scrapyard).

Rich.

Holden FC station wagon:

I have always been amazed by abandoned cars in the Australian outback. How did they get to such isolated locations? Were they abandoned after breaking down?

Next to the road, behind a hedge there is a area of several cars. I am going to take my camera down and ask the farmer if I can go in and take some photo's but here is the one nearest the gate.

another one looking in from the gate

Looks like an interesting little haul, shame to see the estate looking so derelict. Good luck with the farmer Smile

I have seen plenty of abandoned cars in the Aussie out back. Much the same as in the picture. Some of them would have belonged to the abo's. who would have had just enough money to buy it. So once it broke down it would be abandoned. Just too far from town and then having to wait for spare parts to turn up. Others could be shearers. My mate got to Mt. Isa and the diff. went in his European car. He traded it in as he knew he would have to wait a long time be fore a diff. would come from Melbourne or some where.

Reason 1: to provide objects for Ebay's "Barn Find" category
Reason 2: to provide us with spare parts - where else can you find a Mini Clubman grill or a Maxi with roof mounted missile launcher Laughing
If such folk had done the usual thing all of these motors would probably now be available as deluxe far east produced machine tools etc!
