Recently I came across a problem dismantling the bonnet of the Austin 10 I am restoring. I could not remove the centre bar in the hinge. It probably had been touched for 70 years. When eventually I could move it a bit, I found I did not have anything of the right diameter or length to ream it out. After dousing it in penetrating oil, I attached the end of it in the chuck of a variable speed drill. Presto, I was able to remove it easily and without any damage.
