Hi
I read:- "metal bodies and all designed to be repaired by blacksmiths there was very little to them! "
I work as a blacksmith, are you implying something?????? hehehe
Why don't you want to drive it to the test station?
So you are going to try and use her as a runner, and rolling resto, or are you going to pull the engine etc apart, I wouldn't bother if she is running, and if she start to run cleanly and sweetly?
Cheers
Dave
P.S... Great read, keep us posted as you add to it! |

Well last night was handbrake night. The only thing that that was missing was a fully functioning handbrake and after reading the full history of the car it was clear we had a very different job on our hands than we first thought.
I should explain.......
My 'thing' is research. I seem to be able to find information and contacts on the most obscure subject in minutes flat. This was almost a exception. I spent literally days on the web and the phone trying to find out information on the marque and on the car itself and mostly before I had taken delivery. Remember also that I'd only spent 20 minutes looking at the car before declining it as an option. I was lucky though, one 1 of the 3 photos I took I noticed a badge on the front reading EPVCC and remembered a comment about being renovated in Africa. Onto google I went and found a spreadsheet dated 2006 with all the email contact details of the entire South African Vintage Clubs' Committees including "Eastern Province Vintage Car Club". A pile of emails later and a Michael Milner-Smyth replied offering me a spare copy of the SAVVA (South Africa Vintage and Veteran Assoc) from 1994 with an article all about my Alldays and its history. pdf copy here.
As you can see there is nothing but cosmetic work to be done but luckily there is plenty of that but it also means we'll be ready for next summer show season. |

Took it for it's first run today.
After figuring out there was no fuel getting through it ran very sweetly and off we went down the road but very very slowly. We stopped and I tried another gear which was 1st rather than 3rd and off we went again. It runs really nicely and although the crash gearbox is 'interesting' we managed to get along at a fair clip after getting into 2nd.
The looks on people's faces was hilarious with smiles and waves a plenty. Not wanting to tempt luck we got back home after only a short trip round the block.
My hands were shaking, mouth dry and every sphincter tightly closed. When we got back we realised that I'd not put the plates on.
Next comes MOT! (and if plod is watching we were booked in at an MOT station down the road) |

It passed its MOT this morning and now officially on the road and legal!
The early running problem were narrowed down to fuel delivery which itself was due to an odd fuel tap. Rather than moving 90 degrees between on and off it opens and closes like a water tap so 5 turns are needed to fully open it.
It runs beautifully, ticks over nicely and is about to be driven around for the first time. This should be easier now I know which gear is which.
The learning curve has a new start! |

Hi
Big well done, hasn't taken you long to have here ready for the road, done it faster than me with my ford!
Cheers
Dave
P.S... I look forward to seeing some pictures of it being driven through town, or amongst some modern traffic! |

I may be able to get some video up tonight.
Now it's running nicely it's alomst time to take it apart for the rebuild!
It's not as extensive as first thought. The wings will come off first, as will the wheels and tyres for a repaint (colour yet to be decided) along with the engine louvres. The body will be colour matched using suitable coach paint and the seat rebuilt to more aesthetically correct lines.
In the meantime the chassis will be degreased and painted black. |

Hi
Really good! Nice to see it running, bet you are really pleased. So now comes the dismantling?
Are you planning on doing any rallies or runs in her? Shame she is a bit to young to do the London to Brighton. Are you joining/have joined the veteran club?

I've joined the VCC who have been a huge help already putting me in touch with 1 of the other 2 car owners of its type.
I am hoping to do a few rallies next year. There are 3 'local' ones but I may be persuaded to travel to 1 or 2 down south. Any recommendations, and how do I register? |

Hi
My Deadline for the Ford is the LLandudno Extravaganza/festival of transport. This is next spring. A really good show, try to get to that one for a look at least!
The evening run up the grat orme should be fun, 1 in 4!
Lots of others, that I will list for you if you want.
Registering is easy, find the show, normally details on the net or on here in the events section, and ring/contact the show organiser asking for a pass, you may have to pay on the day or send a off a little bit. I prefer to do the free shows, but that is a different topic!
Cheers
