Hi everybody!
I open this topic just because I'm really happy, I just finished a long job!
I will have a completely shiny new engine in my car, so I don't want an old engine bay with old paint and rust. So I decided to paint everywhere under the hood. Underhood included.
Some photos, that are easier for me than words!
This is the engine bay before:
Then, after removing the engine, I brushed and cleaned the engine and suspension supports to bare metal:
Then, the primer anti-rust paint:
And finally, the matt black paint:
The bad zone of the fenders were cleaned to bare metal:
Then painted primer:
And then, after sandpapering everywhere, that's me painting! My wife catched me working...
And this is the result of the job:
The red seems different in every photoshot, but is due to different light conditions.
I think is not bad, considering is the first time for me!

Nice work Ricky, I like the large space you have to work in also
What type of paint did you use? I see it's not 2-pack. |

The paint was specifically made for the purpose, the first 2 coatings are od an opaque metallic red, and the second 2 coatings are of tranparent laquer with catalyst. |

I'm just wondering why I couldn't have used that on my car then? Every forum that I ask tells me it has to be 2-pack or Waterbased clear over colour these days, but they tell me both are poisonous.
Did you just take a chance with the personal safety of was your mask enough? |

Thats what its all about great job
One Caviat though, now everything else will look bad, the engine will need a repaint, then the air box then the wiper motor _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

O-N: The clear was two pack, as it used a hardener. But apparently the base didnt need one. So I'm wondering what that was! The mask he used was the type that Greeney suggested a while ago in another post. OK I think for short exposure, as long as it fits correctly, and has the correct filters. But dont take my word on this, I'm no safety expert
Greeney: I know for a fact that the engine will look GREAT on this car. Ricky and I have been liasing since long before he joined the forum. Mopar family, you understand! |

Was the mask the rubber type with the 2 filters on the front? not that one in the photo above, I wouldn't recommend that for 2pk
I was only being funny not serious about the continued paint job _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

Greeney, I will admit, I've been enjoying these discussions with you and O-N over the past few weeks. |
