Does anyone know if there is a higher ratio diff (currently 4.875:1) that fits into the Wolseley 15/50 axle. My car is fitted with the early 4/44 axle (possibly MG TD?) rather than the later BMC 'B' type rear axle
The current diff gives a road speed in top of 15 miles per 1000 rpm, which is rather low! I know that changing for a higher ratio will affect the accelleration (ha ha 0-60 eventually), but am looking to improve fuel economy on longer runs.
Cheers

Hi Nishka,
I think the 4/44 and the 15/50 use the same rear axles, both being 41/8.
The MG Magnette ZA uses a totally different axle with ratio 39/8 but the rear springs are the same width 1.75". The Magnette has 7 leaves instead of 6 but the length is almost identical 46.75" v. 46.0"
I think the MG TD uses the same axle as your car and it had three ratio choices 41/8, 39/8 and 41/9. Given that so many parts are available for the T series I suspect you might get a 39/8.
The MG TF has 39/8 as standard and 41/8 as an option.
