In the early 1950s my father owned a 1946 austin 16 it was fitted with a jaking system that as far as i can remeber was the same as this i remeber the plate with front back and all .Iwish my old crate was fitted with them would save wet knees and bad temper .

47P2 must have posted this thread for some reason. But he does not explain.
I have an FL1 Austin Metropolitan Hire Car with this system. I also have some spares (sorry I dare not sell them). The similar FX2 Taxi also had them. Very convenient, but also could be dangerous. A colleague successfully changed a front wheel and leant under the bonnet to release the pressure by unscrewing the valve which was exactly above the front axle. He dropped the front wheel straight onto his foot, which cost him six weeks off work.
A variety of cars fitted the Jackall system, including Rolls Royce for a while.
Austin Sheerlines and Princesses had a more refined version which had a similar knob for the valve, but accessed through a little trap-door under the carpet in front of the driver's seat. Th refinement was a small electrically driven pump operated by simply pressing the valve knob.
These systems are clearly marked 'Use Red Jackall Fluid Only'. Where can you buy that now? However, back in the 1960s I suffered a puncture outside a remote church just as I delivered the bride with a Sheerline Wedding Car. The reservoir was short of fluid. The only garage anywhere near had never heard of 'Red Jackall Fluid', so in desperation I topped up with Girling Brake Fluid. Although I got a rocket from the management (my Dad) the fluid was never changed and never did any harm to the system even over several years.

Jim,
I posted this because the Jackall was mentioned in another post. Rather than hog a post about something else I thought it best to start a completely new post on the Jackall....

Thanks 47! I did find the start of this thread elsewhere after I posted my reply in this one. By the way, at one time we had 17 cars with the Jackal system. Both manual and electrically operated. The only trouble we had was when someone did not return the control disc on the manual ones to "ALL". Which sometimes allowed jacks to work down and catch on obstructions. That usually destroyed them.

Ref fluid for jakall . The cab tilt system on foward control lorries that i sometimes work on uses a. t. f . fluid maybe it would suit jakall.
