Rick, haven't started it yet. Once everything is fitted & finished, the plan is to tear the engine down and rebuild if necessary. I was told it has a 3/4 race cam but I have my doubts as everything appears to be stock. I have some performance parts lined up, pistons, cam, etc. Still looking for a magneto but can use the distributor if one isn't located.

Peter, I was told the record speed for a highly modified Crosley powered tq is in the 130-135mph range on a high banked paved oval. (Scary!!!)
This one is being built mainly for static display but it may take some laps at a vintage meet in the future. Exhibition laps are usually done at around 60mph depending on the track.

Nic, the hand pump is used to pressurize the fuel tank but will only be for show on this car. I was originally going to use the clutch and starter but doing so left very little room for the drivers feet and no room for a clutch pedal. Almost all TQ and full size midgets are push started.
The 3-speed trans will act like and in-out box. Reverse has been eliminated and only 2nd & 3rd gears plus neutral remain. 3rd gear is used for starting and racing at most tracks. 2nd gear can be used at very short tracks such as an indoor paved arena. No flywheel is used and a direct drive coupler is used in its place. That area will be enclosed with a welded steel tube.
The car can be push started or by spinning the rear wheels if the cars is jacked up and secured. I'm modifying the right rear wheel axle nut so that my electric impact driver can be used to spin the engine over in 3rd gear. Once started it can easily be shifted to neutral for static idling.

Thanks for the comments! Very Happy

Small update. It finally cooled off here and I got the tires and wheels installed and a few minor items taken care of.
Now if only the rest looked as good as the wheels.

Hi Bob
Some of the items that need finished are front & rear nerf bars, rear shocks, seat & cockpit upholstery, instrument panel, exhaust pipe, paint & lettering, and lots of other small details.
Every year I think its going to be done and then other obstacles slow me down. Granddaughter is growing impatient as she wants to show it off.
Thanks for the interest!

your granddaughter is very lucky, wouldnt mind having one for myself!!!
would like to build something for my daughter some day when she's a bit older!! For the time being I am starting some small restoration work on a raleigh chopper which I have had since the early 80s. She is still too young to ride it but that will give me time to finish it and run it in myself Wink

TQ (Three-quarter) midgets were very popular in speedway here in Sydney, Australia in the 1960's. Whereas the US car was powered by a small Crosley car engine, the TQ's here were powered by motorcycle engines, although there was one brave driver who used a Johnson outboard motor.

Here is a fully restored 1960's Australian TQ:

Very cool!
Motorcycle and outboard engines were used over here also.
Harley-Davidson and Elto outboards were popular.
I saw one TQ with a snowmobile engine but don't remember the brand.
