Is anyone planning to do the London to Southend this year? The run starts from Hainault Waters country club in Barkingside, and finishes on Southend seafront after a halfway stop at Basildon. It would be great if some forum members could make it!
It's on Sunday 26th July, and you can download an application form from http://www.sevcvc.com/
PS I'm not advertising, just recommending _________________ Richard Hughes

I was involved in the organisation of this event, right at the very beginning and have only missed one year in the 15 years since it started.
It is a great event, taking in some great driving roads in Essex and a display on Southend sea front that is probably one of the best locations for a display in the whole country. (That should cause some controversy! ) Visitors don't pay anything and get to see a stunning selection of usually over 150 cars.
Some pics of last year's event - the modern cars in the foreground are on the bit of the road that is left open.
I have booked in and look forward to meeting you there, if we haven't met up before July! _________________ Brian

Hi Brian
I was there last year, I drove it for the first time 2 weeks after passing my test. I was in the blue A35 if you remember it
I've done it every year since 2003, as a passenger in my dad's old Austin Somerset, then the A7 Ruby. I've got some photos somewhere, I'll see if I can post them up _________________ Richard Hughes |

Hey Brian,
Great photos of the sea front at last years event. I know it well; I did my apprenticeship at Ekco (radios and TV) in Southend, back in the dark ages! But why didn't you wait until the tide was in???

Strange as it may seem the tide was in when we arrived and then went out! Seems it does that twice a day every day!
The Ecko building was demolished just last year, and is now just a great big empty area waiting for a developer to do something with it. _________________ Brian

For family reasons, I am not doing the L-SE this year.
Have a good time, and take lots of pictures to show those Northerners what an Essex show can look like!!! _________________ Brian

It was a very good day, with over 200 cars attending
Genuine Heinz Hornet
MASSIVE Packard
My favourite car of the run, a lovely original Austin Cambridge
And one for Brian M (he probably knows the owner) I also saw a rather derelict looking Safari caravan as I was driving through Wickford!
A good time was had by all. _________________ Richard Hughes |

Thanks for the pics - a lot of old friends' cars but also some new cars there.
The Amazon is owned by a good friend of mine who bought it after coming to an event in mine and was so impressed that he rushed home, sold his Morris Minor, and hunted down an Amazon. We do some Volvo events each year together.
The old Safari is also known to me if it is at the side of a house between Barleylands and Wickford. I called on the owner many years ago - it has been used as an aviary for 10 years or more and has a rather smelly floor covering that is about six inches thick! _________________ Brian

You should come south more often - it is quite commonly seen down here _________________ Brian

I thought you'd know it - can't be too many two-door Amazons around!
The Safari is a blue and white one, much like the one in your avatar, but it's covered in algae. It is parked down the side of the eighth house past Wickford Service Station travelling West down London Road. I'm sure it's the one you know. _________________ Richard Hughes |

Hey Rich,
Great set of photos. I especially loved the black Somerset rag top. They are as rare as hens teeth in Western Australia!
You also got the tide in! Congratulations
An old schoolmate of mine regularly drives in the London to Southend in his immaculate bright red 1961 Triumph TR3A. I'll have to see if he was there this year!
