I have a Standard Ensign with a towbar (but no ball) that's behind the bumper. The ball then bolts through two holes in the bumper into it.

Trouble is, the bumper is curved so there was presumably two curved spacer plates, 1 concave, 1 convex, that sandwiched the bumper bar. Otherwise the towball is going to flatten the bumper and crush it into the towbar when I tighten up the bolts.

Hope that makes sense!

Anyone got anything lying about?

Had this with my Pathfinders. Not difficult to make a pattern from wood and have a suitably contoured spacer cast in aluminium or brass.

i've just had a measure up and it's actually a little too high.
This will allow the use of a short drop plate behind the bumper and a 1 inch spacer plate so the ball clears the bumper.

Not ideal, but will do to get me on the road for now.

Cheers

I had this with the first Witter tow bar I got for my ADO16s. I got an engineering friend to cut spacers out of a couple of blocks of ali. On another one I cut one out of a block of hardwood.

Here's a pic of the correct cast iron spacers :-

There are tools that look like combs that transfer the curve.

I only just saw your question. I usually get a notification, but for some reason I didn't this time. Sad

And you have such a nice way of putting things. Rolling Eyes

There are others on here that might benefit, even if you aren't interested anymore. Razz
