I was reading the thread about a Daimler and giving an offending part a wack with a hammer/hammer handle or other suitably heavy object to fix it. So what bits of your car have you fixed with a blunt object?

When in the past the starter motor has just gone "whrr" I found hitting it with the starting handle usually did the trick.

If an SU pump dies, often a good thump on the firewall will start it clicking again!

Electric horns seem to be prime target for a successful "whack".

Semaphore indicators respond well to a firm thump of the B post, from time to time. Nothing heavier than a fist mind!

Some years back the gorgeous young girl next door, asked if I would have a look at her car, as the engine was making a terrible noise. When I looked under the bonnet it was obvious the knocking was coming from around the rocker cover. Using a long screwdriver as a stethoscope I found that the noise was from the cover itself. While I looked and listened, she told me that she could not afford to have it fixed whatever it was. "Have you got a hammer?" I asked. When she returned, she told me her boyfriend had fitted a new battery for her and that the noise had started after that. I smiled, and while she was distracted. I gave the cover a tap in just the right place and the noise was gone. I wish I had a picture of the look on her face. I am guessing her boyfriend had knocked the rocker cover as he reached over the engine. I became an instant "Hero" Laughing Laughing
