On my 1925 saloon car is an section in the roof which is fabric rather than an all steel roof. This fabric section I need to replace as its beyond restoration unfortunately. The job looks as though I can tackle it, by removing the steel beading on the roof surrounding and covering the perimeter roof panel. I know where I can purchase the 'hooding' that I need but I am unsure as to what fixings I should use to attach the new hooding to the wooden lath surround of the opening. (this is an fixed roof panel, not an roll back type) Thank you for any advise on this work.

Nobody able to contribute Sad

I've figured that I need to use an flexible sealant between the roof fabric and the 'D' shaped alluminium fixing rail surround the opening in the roof. The only sealant that looks like the correct type for the job is Dum Dum. Anyone any experience of this stuff.

Woolies will be able to help with this material or the nearest equivalent

DumDum is good and easy to use but will "run" when it gets warm until it ages (takes about a year) . Modern silicone will stick better

I am currently replacing the wood section of the roof of my Morris 8. Look at "restorations......" then "the long road". I am using bitumen paint to seal the sides of the wood section with a steel band covering this joint then a vinyl cover with alluminium "D" section outside and covering the edge of the vinyl. I will be posting some photos of this on monday.
