Please - leave re-lining brake shoes to the professionals.

Why! If one does a job properly 100% there is no reason why you shouldn't do such things. I do everything on a car. Replaced the entire braking system making up my own flaring tool based on the old Sykes Pykavant 'G' clamp design before they replaced it with the rather poor 'turret' design - none of the flaring tools sold on ebay for £20-£100 are adequate... they may be able to cope with copper pipe but that should be banned from use on vehicles. [Copper pipe is too soft (stones thrown up or a coke can will crush it) and work hardens]. Kunifer is the only material that should be used for brake piping. You could say tuning a car is dangerous - people who do it learn about it first. One should leave engine rebuilding to a professional you could say. You shouldn't jack a car up - on proper stands perfectly safe. You shouldn't use a ladder... you can fall off. One shouldn't rebuild a gear box - i did it last summer for the first time... they are remarkably simple things to work on.... the mistake is thinking they are complicated - you don't actually have to understand how they work - bit of a three handed job really but you do need to be adept at ways of using jubilee clips to hold bearings in as you assemble the main shaft. You can see my excellent hub removal tool elsewhere in this section - a garage will frequently tell you their an expert and will use a press and ruin your half shaft... but they won't tell you.

If one replaced brake linings properly... there's no reason not too. I think it is probably hard to obtain the proper rivets for the job.
