what do you reckon on this? you dont see many coming up for auction now, there cant be many more festering in sheds

There is an enormous price difference between the remains of a 1.5 litre saloon and a fully almost overdone SS100. Funnily enough I seem to recall SS models being known as Soda Squirts in their day as being a triumph of style over substance until the SS100 appeared.

Yep, the Soda Squirts label was applied to the SS100 too - they were seriously frowned upon by the likes of Talbot, Lagonda and Bentley owners Laughing

The 1½ litre SS is certainly very anemic by modern standards but was pretty near top of the pile when compared with its competitors in the 1930s. Even post war its 0-60 time of 25 secs would see off a mid 50s Rover 60 (26.5 secs) or a Riley RM 1½ litre (31.8 secs) and a few others besides. The poor little four pot engine did a pretty good job given that it was being asked to drag along the same body shell that was used on the six pot chassis.
