Central Garage.

Ross kindly took this photo and sent it over for inclusion in the Old Garages section. It shows Central Garage, a sizeable workshop building situated on New Road, in Port Isaac, Cornwall. Although there aren't many signs of older fixtures and fittings, the architecture dates this garage to the pre-war years. Possible links with the past are the blue bases visible either side of the main door, perhaps they were originally fitted with petrol pumps stood upon them? With roadside garages having disappeared from so many towns and villages, its always nice to see a survivor fulfilling the role it was built for.
Ross added: "I found your site on old garages and petrol stations. Some great pics there. I've fond memories of these types of garage from my childhood in the 70's when my father worked in the trade. Anyway, thought you may like the attached picture. It's an old garage in the village of Port Isaac in Cornwall. This is the village where they film the TV series - Doc Martin. The garage is away from the centre of the village though hence never appears on screen which is a shame. You can just make out a yellow Triumph Stag being worked on in the workshop. The thing that struck me about this garage is that across the small street is another workshop/garage which also sells fuel. How they both keep going is a wonder in such a small place."
