HWM Jaguar single seater.
David sent this and several other Jaguar-related photographs over. They all show his late Uncle, Mike Wright, in action driving various Jaguars, and Jaguar-powered competition cars. The XK120 and lightweight E-Type already feature on the site, and now it is the turn of this pair of pictures, both showing Mike in an HWM-Jaguar single seat racing car. Both photos were taken at different meetings held at Shelsley Walsh in Worcestershire, during the 1960s.

More information on HWM.
Hersham and Walton Motors (HWM) built both sportscars and single seat racing cars during their existence, during the 1950s. HWM was managed by George Abecassis and John Heath, both of whom had run their own sales agencies prior to the war, and joined forces afterwards, to produce their own competition cars, initially powered by Alta engines. The first cars incorporated many parts lifted from roadgoing cars, including components found on the Standard Vanguard, integrating them into their own designs of racing cars. In 1956 Heath died while competing on the Mille Miglia, and shortly afterwards the workshops were closed down.

HWM Jaguar artwork.
In 2010, Jean-Marie contacted me with a scan of a recent drawing he'd done, of Mike Wright in the HWM-Jaguar. Jean-Marie is a keen motoring enthusiast, and also an artist. He asked me some time ago if he could base a few of his drawings on the old photos that appear in the oldclassiccar gallery. More of his drawings can be viewed by visiting his site.
