1930s London Taxi

A group of friends with their taxi at Butlins Clacton in 1956.

Stan kindly sent over these photos showing a 1930s Taxi that he and some friends purchased and ran in the 1950s.

This particular taxi cab, was built in 1939 and would have seen service during World War 2. Taxis are renowned for doing inter-galactic mileages, so no doubt this one had covered some miles before being bought by Stan and friends, who says..

'The Deadwood Stage' was a redundant 1939 London cab that I and six friends bought for 70 pounds in the early 1950s, we ran it for three years in total ignorance and it never ever let us down, thought you may like them, taken at Butlins, Clacton 1956. Again, loved your website. Stan Shaw.

Old taxis can make great people carriers thanks to their generous proportions. Can anyone id the make - is it an Austin taxi?

Old London taxi

Update 2007. Stan has been having another look through the old photo albums, and turned up this 'new' photograph of the 1939 taxi that he and his pals ran in the 50s. If I'm not mistaken thats an Austin Devon parked in front of it.
