Series 3 Morris half ton pick-up.
|
Amazingly an identical pickup to that shown below was spotted locally, earlier this year. This rare example is registered XCG 17 and is due to be restored. |
Les sent this fab colour photograph (below), showing a smart grey Morris 1/2 ton pickup truck parked outside a country watering hole, some time in the early 1960s. This is a Series 3 1/2 ton model, which was sold from 1956 through to 1962, after which the A55-based commercial took over. The Series 3 replaced the previous Cowley MCV, that used the MO Oxford as its basis. The new Series 3 was based on the contemporary Morris Oxford saloon, and was available as a pickup (with canvas tilt), a van, or chassis cab for third party coachwork.
Survivors are scarce, and its unlikely that 493 NO lasted into the 21st century. Unfortunately I can't quite make out the sign stuck in the window, perhaps it was up for sale? there'd be no shortage of buyers if this was on the market today! The pickup is parked alongside another Morris product, namely a Minor saloon. Behind is a steam traction engine, with a cheery chap (complete with hat) perched on the top.
