I can't pass up this opportunity without mentioning
"Spit the Dog", named after a hilarious (?) man + puppet act popular on these
shores a few years back. Ironically the hand regularly to be found up Spit the Dogs nether
regions, a Bob Carolgees, lives not far from me in the Cuddington area of Northwich I
believe. Anyway, my automotive "dog" took the form of Spitfire III registration
number TVK 500G, a wreck so decrepit it made KED's original condition appear 'very clean'.
This was a real hound (cost £50) and was pulled apart for spares, its rolling shell being
passed on to a chap called Pete Readey (for £25), one-time proprietor of legendary
Triumph restoration emporium "Pentangle Restorations" over Warrington way
somewhere.
And while I'm on the theme of 1300cc Spittys, I must admit to acquiring yet
another example (pictured above), derelict once again, from a person at work during 2000.
However, sanity check time, and, due to having an immense list of jobs to do on my
existing fleet, I decided that it'd be best to pass it on for someone else to have a crack
at so off it went in February 2001, to pastures new. But fear not dear
reader, if indeed anyone has made it this far, there was one more example of Spit to come
after KED's sad departure, acquired late on in 1993 .......... if you are of nervous
disposition, or loathe fine old classics that have been modified, please go no further ..
anyone with a delicate demeanour will find the following vehicle quite distressing. Saying
that, if you approve of very quick, fantastic sounding, outwardly standard looking old
Triumph convertible sportscars, step this way .. and take a step nearer to THE
BEAST.........my 2.5 GT6-chassis Mk3 Spitfire, of which more elsewhere!
