Issigonis Lightweight special, at the Curborough speed trials, May 2007 (#28/65).Alec Issigonis is known to most casual motoring fans as the brains behind the the 1948 Morris Minor and 1959 Mini (amongst others). In the 1930s and early 1940s though his and George Dowson's spare-time attentions were focused on developing and racing their own single seat competition car. The car enjoyed great success in hillclimbs and sprint events. Mini enthusiasts will recognise the angle of the steering wheel in the lightweight special!

If you can add to the information I have on this Lightweight special then by all means drop me a line and I'll include it here. More photos of Issigonis-type cars like this always welcomed!! |
