BSA 10hp photograph.This BSA was (I think) spotted on the Manchester Vintage Car club stand. Dating to 1934 these BSAs came with a pre-selector gearbox and fluid flywheel. You'd select the next gear you want via the gearchange lever and dab a foot pedal when you want it to make the change. Some 1930s single seat racing cars (eg ERA) used a similar system of gearchanging.
