Austin Princess. The original Wedgie. The styling was quite a bold step for the BL management who were more used to serving up warmed-over 1100s and Marinas. Curiously it didn't come with a proper hatchback despite the shape crying out for such a facility (the Ambassador would correct this 'feature' later on). My lasting memory of the Princess is visiting a scrapyard in 1990/91 and seeing rows of Princesses (and other BL stuff) stacked 3 high awaiting the chop. Rarest variant now is probably the original 18-22 Wolseley which featured a small Wolseley grille grafted onto the front. That would be the final nail in the coffin for the once-proud Wolseley marque. The Austin name would continue into the 1990s on such delights as the Maestro and Montego.
Photographs of classic vehicles at Weston Park in Shropshire.I've featured 105 of the photos that I took at Weston Park, including this one of the Austin Princess that was at the show on the Sunday (its a 2 day event). There was an interesting selection of classics on display, many of which I've not seen before. More pictures from this particular show can be seen on the Weston Park page. Links to pics of other Austins, if I have some, are further down this page. All the car & other vehicle photographs have copyright on them. |
