Saurer lorry.

Thanks to Stephen firstly for allowing me to reproduce this old lorry photo here. He sent it over in 2010, wondering if anyone could identify the old lorry that his grandfather was stood alongside, circa 1920. Several people who are keen on vintage commercials have taken a look, and it was finally identified as a Swiss-built Saurer, dating to the late teens or very early twenties. The registration number, WA 104, confirms the Sheffield location. This series was introduced in October 1919 and continued until 1924, making this most likely a 1920 or thereabouts vehicle.

A Saurer truck in Sheffield
The Saurer is fitted with a flatbed truck body, and scuttle-mounted lamps. Note the solid rubber tyres, and minor damage to the bonnet side panels, evidence of a hard life by the time of this photograph.
