Large British toy racing car from Mettoy Ltd

More information on this British toy car
Not actually tinplate, but still made from metal so I've included it in this toys section. This is a heavy toy, and was originally available in several colours. The body is cast from some kind of non-ferrous alloy/base metal, and is riveted onto the base. The car shown was Made in Great Britain either late in the 1940s or possibly the 1950s, and features a strong clockwork motor. The wheels are however tin plate, with nicely lithographed tyres and spoked 'wheels'. The 'gear lever' engages and disengages drive as required. The steering also works. Two different tinplate Mettoy racing cars, again with clockwork motors in them, now feature here. In the 1950s, as part of their Joytown series, Mettoy produced a racing car set called the Joytown Junior Grand Prix Race Track, an example of which can be found here.
Measures: 165mm long.
Colour: red all over, no driver fitted.
