Thanks to Neil for sending these photos in after having seen photos from the '74 RAC Rally on oldclassiccar.

Vauxhall Magnum on the starting ramp

Vauxhall Magnum driven by Chrissie Ashford

Neil says .. "These 2 images are of lady rally driver, Chrissie Ashford, in her Vauxhall Magnum leaving the start ramp at the start of the 'Raylor' rally held in North Yorkshire in the mid 70's ... I enjoyed seeing the photo page on the 1974 RAC rally, it was around this time I took an interest in rallying and armed with a rather cheap Instamatic camera, ventured into the forests and took a lot of rather fuzzy photographs of rally cars in the mid 70's."

Thanks for sending the photos over Neil.

The roadgoing Vauxhall Magnum was produced between 1973 and 1978, and was basically an uprated version of the 'cooking' HC Viva, with numerous improvements to both internal and external trim, plus pokier engines to give them improved urge.

The engine in the Magnum could either be a 1.8 litre or 2.3 litre slant 4. Two and four door versions were available, as were the rare estates and coupes.
