Lightweight alloy flywheel to suit the A-Series

To suit A-Series powered Morris Minor and Austin A30/A35 cars.

Enclosed with the original Aquaplane catalogue featured elsewhere on this site, came this small single page flyer for the Super Lightweight Alloy Flywheel, manufactured and sold by the company in the 1950s.

It was priced at 12.10.0, and designed to fit all A-Series powered cars of the early/mid 1950s - ie before the Mini and its transverse arrangement was introduced, in 1959.

The company, based in Oulton Broad, Suffolk, sold all manner of tuning parts for Fords and BMC cars of this era. The information about this replacement flywheel goes as follows:

"The most exciting addition to the Aquaplane Range of Speed Equipment, for the BMC 803cc and 948cc OHV engines, is the Aquaplane Alloy Flywheel. This wheel produces phenomenal acceleration and is often the hidden secret of success in many a competition.

As with the other famous Aquaplane Alloy Flywheels, this wheel is manufactured in SPECIAL HIGH-TENSILE ALUMINIUM ALLOY. The wheel is beautifully machined on ALL SURFACES to the highest standards. Complete with starter ring gear, the wheel comes ready to fit. Installation is, therefore, a matter of simple substitution. Originally produced exclusively for competition, the latest wheels now incorporate a STEEL PRESSURE FACE INSERT. This most important feature gives the wheel a life approximating that of the original iron one. This extension in wearing quality now makes the wheel suitable for every-day use when it will be of immediate interest to every sporting driver. The spectacular weight reduction is 11lb. The Aquaplane wheel only weighs 10lb against 21lb for the standard one. The extremely rapid acceleration available through the Aquaplane wheel may well confound the drivers of cars not so fortunately equipped.
