1934 3.5 Litre Bentley Sedanca Coupe, by Barker.
This less-than-perfect photograph turned up in a collection I bought a while ago. It features a 3.5 litre Derby Bentley, this one dating to 1934 and sporting rather swish Sedanca Coupe coachwork by Barker. A member of the VSCC forum was able to confirm that this car, chassis number B199BL and registered BGW 800, was delivered new to a Captain T.A. Fairhurst in September 1934. Perhaps it is Capt. Fairhurst that can be seen, sat behind the Bentley's steering wheel?

The Bentley's current whereabouts.
A short time after publishing this photo on the site, Matt contacted me from the USA. He is curator of a car collection in Las Vegas, Nevada, and included in the collection is this Bentley, registration BGW 800. Matt adds:
|
"It was purchased .... while [the current owner] was in England in 1968 for a Royal Command Performance. He purchased the 1934 as well as a 1952 Bentley Mk VI from the owner. I believe it was a woman that had the cars. He has had the cars since then and they have been kept in excellent condition. They are both registered, insured and driven on occasion. To my understanding the 1934 is one of two built by Barker as competition cars. The sister car to this one was searched for extensively, but was never found. The car is in a display garage at a private residence at this time, but will soon be on public display."

As the photos below confirm, the car is in beautiful condition. It now sports chrome wire wheels and whitewall tyres, but otherwise is virtually identical to its appearance in the period photograph shown above. Thanks to Matt for filling in the recent details on this rare motor-car.
