If a head for a Model A cannot be sourced in the U.K., then one could be found quite easily in the US or Canada. Freight might be fairly high, but purchase price fairly low.
A Model B head will do the job too, but that would also require a B water pump.
That is an interesting car. I don't think that many 1931 coupes were produced, even in the USA. I notice that the car must be an import as the steering wheel is on the wrong side.
Very curious about the water pump. I never owned a 1931 A, so it is possible that the pump in the photo is correct for the car, but it is unlike any genuine A water pump that I have known. Perhaps it is an after-market replacement. The fan pulley does not look right for the car, notice how the belt is settled so deep within the pulley.
Headlamps have been through the frequent 1950's modification of being fitted with sealed beams. I do like the accessory lamps mounted on the wings.
With the head repaired or replaced, and proper maintenance of the whole car, your friends have a machine for many many thousands of miles of enjoyable motoring.
One more thing- Model A brakes, properly set up, were as good as, if not better than most cars of their era. The setting up is relatively simple, but something that many A owners seem to find mystifying and so unfairly blame the car for poor braking performance.
Please wish them good luck from a former A owner who wishes that he still had one! _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

Easier, and quicker than me trying to describe the differences, here is a link to the 'Model A Ford Garage' (U.S.) with pictures and details.-
