I heard on the radio today that from next month the police will have the power to impose a £100 fine and a 3 point penalty for roadhogs and tailgaters. and not before time. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |

But when did you last see a traffic cop to enforce it? It's going to be the mobile phone law all over again, great in theory but the manpower to enforce it just doesn't exist. Plus, of course, some of the worst driving I've ever seen - especially tailgating - has been from marked police cars, and they're hardly going to ticket themselves... |

| Agreed BB. I live near the the M1 and use it or cross over it regularly. I probably see one police car a month on it. |

So how long before there's camera's now giving out automatic tickets if you're too close to the car in front? Camera's for fixed speed, average speed, and no tax etc. Only a matter of time?
Agreed it's dreadful driving activity, but can't see it being enforced otherwise. _________________ Born to rally, forced to work!

It happens in Germany I believe. Autobahnen have 'minimum gap lines' painted on them on the approach to bridges. Cameras on the bridge take photos of vehicles closer than the minimum gap line to the one in front. |

I can imagine in the future when the driver has to log in to their car, and all cars have to have GPS trackers and dash cam's; the live information will all get uploaded to the authorities and a computer will determine if you were speeding and where you were in relation to other vehicles. If an offence has been committed it will issue direct debit to you bank to cover the fine, and add the points to your virtual licence

As to Policing the laws I think they change it to suit themselves.
According to Essex Police it is NOT an offence to park on the pavement.
Reported someone for completely blocking the pavement near a school, parents were having to take to the road to get past,
When the police officer turned up I was told it's acceptable and not against the law otherwise there wouldn't be enough room for everyone to park and she dose it all the time. |

I wish they would show such aplomb when it comes to burglaries. My mothers house was burgled six times and they have done nothing. To me this will be just a money thing, it's common knowlege that Chief Constable House here in Scotland has instructed the Police to "do" the motorists when and where possible to get the money in.
Edit: I see plenty of Traffic cops here in Glasgow. _________________ 'Iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another' |

as a LGV driver,if i get too near the lorry in front,i'm a tail-gater,if i pull out to go by him,i'm a roadhog,as it often takes too long to get by someone with the speed-limiters..more easy money off us motorists |
