Hi Guys,
Just a simple question for the experts please ..but dont wanna do silly mistakes on my 1st restoration.
Have a mk2 spitfire for full restoration...should i start restoring the chassis first and then fit the body (which needs work) and sort out the body on a restored chassis or should i restore the body first on a non restored chassis, remove it, restore the chassis and then fit the restored body on a restored chassis again. Thanks so much guys...Ian |

I would repair the body first on the chassis, to ensure it fits properly. The other way round grinding and replacing metal etc on a painted chassis will be a recipe for scrapes and welding burns.

Hi Kels, Thanks for your help...yes actually that is what i was thinkin of..and there is plenty of work on the body so somehow or another you will scrape the chassis again! ,but i floated the question to play safe...Thanks again kels for your time!..Ian |

I owned a Mk 3 Spitfire some years ago. I had to carry out sill replacement and managed to carry out the job so that the doors were catching afterwards.
Due to incompetence, and working too quickly. Brace the body before replacing the sills. Check the door gap regularly.
I would do the sills with the body on the chassis to ensure fit.
Nice cars for a sunny day.
