After my contretemps with the circular saw, I should have learned to pay attention.
Well this morning that resolve slipped somewhat . . .
With RH index finger in hinge side door jam, I went to close the door!
Good leverage + finger in jam = howl in agony!
Took a second for the pain to register, then it was a case of hopping around swearing at everything and everyone in sight including myself.
An application of Zambuk, however, soon had the pain a distant memory and blood blister disappearing.
Geoff - Finger just about back to normal.

I used to have the same problem, but found the solution several years ago now. I get cheapy steel toed safety shoes, and wear them around like slippers until they fall to bits. No more stubbed toes or mad hunts for footwear to nip up to the garage / fetch the milk in / put the bin out, I can definitely recommend it. |

Silly me stories.
When I was taught to gas weld the old boy who shew me would always turn over the top of the welding wire at through 180 degrees. He told me that stopped you poking it in your eye if you got careless.
As I wore glasses and you normally wear goggles when welding anyway I couldn't see any real purpose in doing this.
That was until I found out (the hard way) that it also stopped you picking up the welding rod by the hot end if you dropped it.

I cut through my electric lawn mowers lead a couple of weeks ago only a couple of metres from the the mower.
I found a spare 3 pin plug and socket adaptor I found lying around in the garage and thought perfect I will use that to splice the problem.
All good, then it pulls apart so I leant down to pick it up to plug it back in. Wack my thumb lit up like a firework, it felt like someone had hit it with a hammer. Fortunately the isolator flipped.
So I thought f**k me this is dangerous. I looked at the adaptor only to find that the pins are meant to be on the appliance side and the sockets on the power side. Ar*e had put them the wrong way around! |

The dumbest thing I have ever done, and it was dumb! was whilst fitting a door in the house; I needed to raise it slightly to ensure the hinge was in the right place. The scraps of wood to hand were all too thick, so I grabbed the thinnest bit of scrap wood in one hand, and picked up my electric plane in the other and began to plane the wood.......what happened was that the wood was ripped from my grip and I ended up planing the palm of my hand ...still got the scars.

When I was in single mens' quarters at Newquay Police Station, I came in off night shift one morning, switched the two-bar electric fire on, went to the toilet, came back, thought the bars should have been glowing by then - AND TOUCHED THEM TO SEE IF THEY WERE GETTING HOT!!!
For God's sake, how dumb was that!
I survived by the way. |
