Hello everyone!

I'm starting to research materials to insulate my caravan with – now, my boyfriend seems to think we are going to take the caravan to the Alps for a skiing holiday, so wants something of Arctic-spec. I'm a little more realistic~~~ (and I really REALLY like catered chalets) so whilst I want the caravan to be cosy and useable for a good portion of the year, I'm not planning to be mounting any expeditions to the polar regions in it!

What do you suggest?

Thanks!

Although I don't have a caravan, if I did I would use a urethane, foil backed sheet such as Kingspan. The thinnest you will find is 25mm and in house construction this would be about 100mm short of the regulation amount. In a caravan, with tight joins filled with fireproof expanding foam and foil taped I imagine this would make quite a difference.
Obviously I know that caravan people will have a standard approach to insulation so you can expect some contradiction here.
Have fun.

hi
it depends on how much work you want to do to a caravan top off the range older vans have heavy foil insulation and modern vans expanded foam
the older vans are much better at retaining heat but if you have glass windows you will need heavy curtains with a thermal linning, and we are looking at the covers that motorhomes use on there glass windscreens
i think i could make them out of radiator foil

this is highly effective but still relatively thin insulation.

I have posted this picture before; it's our caravan in the Alps in May earlier this year - it was our second time touring the Alps with a caravan and in the main we've stayed on designated sites (....out in the wilds only a couple of times).....the advantage with sites, anywhere in the world, is that you can plug in an oil filled, thermostatically controlled, electric radiator. Whilst there is an on-board thermostatically controlled gas heater in the Carlight I wouldn't want to leave it lit whilst asleep or away from the van.

Thanks! It was bought purely as a towcar for the Carlight!
