Gidday all,

I am doing some homework and after some advice on whcich way to go.

I currently have the Morris chassis to the point of being fully stripped of all atachments and intend to have it blasted to assess the extent of rust and to remove the old paint. All hoses, brake lines, electrical and suspension and driveline components have been removed.

I am looking at options to detirmine whether abrasive or soda blasting is the way forward prior to looking at service providers.

There are a few fairy rusted areas present and am not sure if soda blasting would be agressive Twisted Evil enough to effectively remove it. At the same time would abrasive blasting lead to more remedial work i.e. filling to get back to a smooth surface for paint?

Your invaluable inputs will be appreiated Cool

Cheers

Hi, for something like a chassis , that's difficult to blast in all areas, I think a dip and elpo is the best approach. It will both clean and get primer into places Morris never did.

Hi Dave,

I had considered dipping but more an electrolysis type that would also provide the intial prime. But about the only dipping service I have found in Adelaide is Minus Paint.

http://www.minuspaint.com.au/

Too me it looks like a caustic bath. Would you foresee any issues with caustic? My main concerns would be causitc residues left in the joints of the ladder frame and the perforated side chassis rail plates at the front end.
I do like the look of the Surface Processing Limited process in the UK unfortunately Adelaide does not seem to provide this Crying or Very sad

Idea Unless I can sneak the chassis into the Holden factory Cool
Cheers

Looks like minus paint only removes the paint and doesn't offer a re-paint service. My thought would be to have the chassis stripped / treated to remove rust and look for a company that specialises in Ecoat. Otherwise known as electro deposition (EDP). This is what's is used by all motor manufacturers for chassis and car panels prior to priming and painting. It offers the best corrosion resistance and is usually no more than 20 microns thick, can be powder coated or wet painted.

Hi Roscoe
havn't put my photo's up yet.....send me an e-mail and I'll show u what worked for me....

thinking out loud......if the metal is damaged by sand / grit blsting it wsn't any good anyway......doing this heavy cleaning take a lot of effort and putting the vehicle back together again more so, with thin sheet work /metal is a total waste of ur time....if in doubt and its thin junk it.......
I've done mine so it should last for 25 years before some other sucker get's to do it again....
