G'day chaps,

This caravan and it's coupling has been presented to our Australian forum by a New Zealand member for identification.

We don't recognise either and I am wondering if anybody can say if they are of English origin, as I suspect they may be

The tow coupling is unusual

And this is the caravan it is on

Thanks for looking,

Cobber.

Never seen a hitch like that in the UK. It looks a bit like a Berkley Baronet, but it isn't. The wheels look 1930's. Probably a small factory untraceable or a home build.

Thanks Tony,

The owner of the van tells us he has towed it using that coupling and..... it worked OK, sure is a different way of doing it though.

I thought the roof line over the front windows excluded it from being a "home made", a bit extravagant... but I would like to see photos of the interior before ruling it out for sure.

Regards,

Cobber.

HI Cobber your right in your thinking a bit extravagant , for a home built job, the dropped roof line at the front of the van and the shape of the van is similar to a American made van called Covered Wagon built in the late 30S imported into the UK by Nomad Caravan company in 1937
maybe your van is a copy or an earlier model ?
I got this info from British Caravans vol 1 page 157

G'day OVM,

Thanks for that, I had also considered it might be the "Covered Wagon".

We (Down under) have seen old advertisements for similar vans here but haven't seen the real thing until this one turned up (in New Zealand)

The closest one to it was in the add. below for a larger model that was renamed "Home comfort " caravan here, as I said we haven't seen one so we don't know if they were actually sold here in any numbers.

What do you think about the tow coupling ?

Cobber.
