I've been restoring an old 1967 Jag 420 but during prep work on the body an old nerve injury to my arm played up and i gave it to a guy to finish off some filler repairs etc and paint it,he goes under the name of **removed**,based in Falkland but hires a booth in Dundee. If you're looking to part with your hard earned then please avoid this guy for your pride and joy!,**removed**'s his name.

Sad to see, but I can't have allegations being made here about specific people, businesses etc.

A bit strange calling this an allegation when i really did go through this.just trying to save people from going through the same thing. How are people meant to find out about these people without spending hundreds, thousands and having their car ruined?

I hear what you're saying, but this is how it is, I don't need to risk getting embroiled in any potential legal issues surrounding problems such as this, even if the complaint is legit. This isn't the only forum to ask that company- or individual-specific complaints are resolved offline, and not aired on the forum, especially when the accused isn't registered and therefore able to offer their side of the argument/debate.

I get your point entirely, and I agree based on your photos it looks like a shoddy job, but the forum isn't geared up to be a platform for complaints of this nature.

thanks, RJ.

I agree it looks like a terrible job, but there's no back story here - for example how much effort has been made to allow the person to fix the problem, how much it cost (cheap blowover vs. proper job), how much of the prep work was done and by whom? The painter might say that he only painted it, and all the prep was done by someone else, for example.

Check out any other "proper" forum (Pistonheads, Retro Rides) and you'll find the same issues about "naming and shaming". It's not that anyone disagrees that on the face of it you've had a bad job done, just that there are (forum, if not legal) rules about whether you can name who did it here when they don't have the opportunity to defend themselves.

I agree. A few years back I had a phone call from a potential customer who messed me about so much that I decided to have nothing to do with him and put the phone down on him.
A few days later a different version of events appeared on some (thankfully little used) forum giving my trading name and full contact details.
I often use forums etc for recommendations but ultimately the choice of who anyone trades with should be theirs.

I have to agree - OP wrote "...to finish off some filler repairs etc and paint it" so we don't know who did what - rather unfair to come on a forum and criticism someone on that basis, especially as a first post.

There are so many faults in preparation or spraying there that it's almost like a leg-pull.
A car of that size and quality would cost a small fortune to refinish correctly. If you have paid big money and can't get it back then I can understand your need for recrimination.
I suspect that it will be clear from whatever you were charged or proposed to have been charged, that a few, Ahem, short-cuts including the use of a brick, would be involved here.
More constructive to look round this forum and be guided towards people who will certainly advise you well and possibly get the job done properly for you.

Presumably you were clear with the scope of work and agreed a price, then if the work wasn't done properly you didn't pay until it was rectified?
