Spotted this on Practical Classics' Facebook page, and is worth repeating here in case you receive calls about a car you have for sale:
------------------
NC: SCAM WARNING! I had a strange phone call today. A chap phoned in claiming that someone from Practical Classics had contacted him earlier saying we would come to take pictures of his car for a feature, and then possibly buy it afterwards. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING WE WOULD DO.
We have been made aware of a recent scam where people phone up classified ad numbers claiming to be from various classic car publications and asking for an up front fee to feature their car. I don't know if this today is an escalation of this scam, a simple miscommunication or a new scam, but please do not respond to any communication from a company claiming to be us or associated with us, who asks you for money. IF YOU DO, PLEASE CONTACT US ON 01733 468000 and ask for Practical Classics editorial.
I'm ashamed to say that my hometown of Coventry seems to be the epicentre of some of these scams, with the numbers 02476 525520, 02476 223670, 02476 550082, 02476 550085 and 02476 550090 all having been used in bogus advertisement scams. Please be vigilant folks! _________________ Rick - Admin
