Hi Kev

Can't help with the a name of a firm.....are you fitting with a new seal ? The reason that I ask is that when I did my MV course some 95 years ago Smile ( just down the road from you in Chester) we had to fit a screen on an Astra as I remember, as part of the practical, 1/4" rope was order of the day with an ample supply of diluted washing up liquid; we were instructed that if a new seal was being fitted then no sealant should be used, as this is how cars came out of the factory...all very different to how modern screens are fitted.

Getting the screen into the opening isnt the issue dave, I cant get the chrome trim fitted after.
I have tried fitting the trim after installing the glass into the opening and also tried fitting the trim into the seal once the seal is on the glass but before the glass is installed into the car..no joy!
Found a mobile fitter in wrexham so I have emailed him, heres hoping.

Hope you have found an 'old fashioned' fitter, and not the modern mastic gun operator.
The use of rope referred to in an earlier comment is used as part of the process.

Place the screen in the rubber.
Using rope, around 1/8" to 1/4", feed this rope into the screen rubber behind the screen.
Place the screen against the aperture, (get someone to hold the screen in place).
Work the rope out of the screen rubber, pulling the rubber seal in place and tucking trim in place (the trim is held in place by small clips)
Use the trimming tool to replace the chrome or plastic strip in the external gap.
use a lubricant (washing up liquid neat) where required.

If the screen is laminated, show great care, toughened do 'bend'

Best of luck,

well, he has a Picture of him doing a screen on an xk150 so assuming it is actually him id say he is old fashioned.
as for my screen, getting the glass in the opening is no bother, its the chrome trim thats the challenge.
Im sure there is a knack to it

Just remembered ! MGB GT's have some really tricky chrome type inserts that are a pig to fit, if you are still stuck may be worth giving Mark a call at the Welsh MG Centre in Rhostyllen, see who they use.

Modern cars do not use 'mastic'.

But older 'classic' cars do.
