Hi all,
I'm off to view what appears to be a MkI Wolseley 1500 in about half an hour, but I've just checked the DVLA record for the car and it's listed as manufactured and first registered in 1968!
This surely must be a typo...the car does appear to be a MkI 1958 model with exposed bonnet hinges.
How easy/difficult would it be to get the DVLA record changed? Heritage Certificate required?

Plus, production ceased in '65. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

| On my 1st day at work in 1962, i was taken for a road test in a maroon one of these. Always had a soft spot for the 1500 and it's slightly more sportier brother the Riley 1.5. |

I think you're on the money there, Rick. There's a note on the front of the V5 that this is a non-transferable registration mark. I've got a name and address for the previous owner who had the car for 18 years until he sold it last year, so I'll probably try and contact him to see if he has any history.
This was only an initial viewing but the car appeared very solid...no sign of rot anywhere and just two or three small scabby bits on the paintwork. The engine sounds sweet and all the gears select easily, although I haven't driven her at this point. Sadly, all the glass was etched with the number LDY 957 and the seats need restitching in quite a few places.
I'm not sure what the market's like for these now. I could probably do a deal around £1500...is it worth it? I'll be having a think over Easter...and trying to find out a bit more about the car. |

Let us know how you go on, if all the panels are steel and it runs and drives nicely, £1500 doesn't sound like a bad deal on the face of things.
Front wings can rot, as can the sills and all the lower edges, also have a shufty inside the rear door openings, with the doors open, as they can be bogged with filler where the panel curves down to the rear end of the sills.

If LDY was it's original reg. then DVLA should be able to trace when it was originally issued to that car. _________________ Bristols should always come in pairs.

They were a nice little car. A friend had one back in the sixties and I remember him rolling it with me in it. We ended up some distance from the road in a field full of sugar beet. Somehow we managed to right it and drive home with a clutch that wouldn't disengage. The pushrod had pulled out of the slave.
It didn't look very good in the morning, but it felt as though it had rotated several times, so it was fairly sturdy.
I hope yours is a success and that you manage to stay off the roof.  |

Rust is your big enemy as Rick has mention and the 1500/1.5 can attract a lot of it.
Front panel, front wings including the box section inside the wing at the top, front suspension mounts, A pillar, , door bottoms, bottom of rear wings; they can all get 'frilly' at the edges though repair panels are available including steel front wings - at a price. Engine/transmission parts are easy to obtain. Check 2nd gear syncromesh, it's the first to go - either live with it, double de-clutch or fix it/have it fixed.
The Riley has better brakes (fit a brake servo for further improvement on both models). The Riley is the more lively of the two (its engine is the same state of tune as the MGA) but they're both hugely enjoyable cars and easy to work on - but buy one with the least rust, I've seen very good cars written off because it it. _________________ David
