Did I hear on the news yesterday that the Government is to allow motorsport on public roads, come on Saltburn, you are back in business again!
I also have read that tax discs are going to be withdrawn later this year, even if you pay, at least they cannot be stolen.

The London event next year is for electric powered low emission race cars that are built by a French company.
They will take part in races all over the world in major cities.
The Motor Fest event in Coventry this year was to give the officials and the city council a taster of what could happen if closed street circuit racing was ever allowed.
Anyone who went to the BRM day in Bourne Lincs nearly two years ago got a taste of what could or may happen.
Historic and modern formula one cars running through the streets was great to see.
We go to events in France throughout the year, a great way of having a climax to your weeks holiday.
You just cannot beat seeing a MK 1 Cortina, Porsche 911, Mini, Jaguar MK11 and a big block V8 Camaro chasing each other through the narrow streets of historic Angouleme.
These are historic based, so you will see 1920`s - 1970`s race cars of all descriptions.
To see 20 pre-war Bugatti`s racing through the street circuit with nought ols baaaaahed shoulder to shoulder combat is a sight to behold.
Vintage and Classic car clubs or individuals are made very welcome to put on static display`s throughout the town.
There are some of the very best concourse vehicles on display similar to a Pebble Beach event, normally held on the lawns in front of the
chateau.
The bars , restaurants hotels and shops do a roaring trade.
And it is a place for the fashion darlings to parade around over the weekend ( lovely).
Not sure Coventry has that historic backdrop though.!!!

Hi,
Was Bourne BRM Day really that long ago?
Would be fantastic to see proper road racing in the streets. Although Bourne wasn't a race more like a parade the sound was fantastic especially from the V16.
BTW by far the best book I have ever read on real road racing is The last Road Race by Richard Williams.

Aren't tax disc's supposedly turning electronic? I don't know how they'll do that though!
I'm all for road racing, aslong as it doesn't give young boy racers (I'm only 23 but I sound about 60!) the idea that it's fine to drag race down a main road at 2am!
Something similar to the TT, now that would be fab!!

Tax discs are disappearing totally in October. DVLA records are the electronic aspect.

Back in the 1950s a road race circuit was proposed for the Peak District though it never happened at the time. A couple of years ago my local Riley Motor Club group drove the intended circuit, it would be good to see it reinstated.

I keep seeing people with racks of them at autojumbles and I wonder how long before they're all in landfill. Maybe someone can think of an alternative use for them all. It's always the problem with basing your business on people buying someone elses product and buying yours as an add-on.
Just about the only Grand Prix I make a point of watching on the TV now is the Monaco one, and that's mainly about the setting. Granted that's partly because the setting is in the lovely-looking (usually sunny) South of France, but it's just so much more interesting than watching them drive around a normal track. |

In the 1960s my Great uncle, who lived in mid-Wales at the time, was involved with motorcycle trials and was one of a group looking to create a road racing circuit in the area around Presteigne/Knighton I think. Being pals with the likes of Innes Ireland helped I think
For whatever reason it didn't come to anything (logistics would have been a headache I suspect), I've a leaflet that they produced about the proposals somewhere.
