Perhaps I'm asking the impossible but what vintage (pre 1939) car might be available in drivable condition for under £4k?

The Alldays is all but sorted and I'm hankering after another project that requires time rather than money (hahahahaha) and considering my options.

Ideas, thoughts?

I don't know about U.K. prices, but if you are lucky enough to find one, try a Model A Ford. Virtually all parts are readily available, they are easy to work on, and can happily handle modern traffic, provided the driver understand the cars limitations. Unfortunately the ones sold in England suffered from the dreaded horsepower tax, so were smaller bored than for the rest of the world, but I would imagine even small bored ones should go well, but then ther4e is always the option of fitting a full size engine.

Here is a short video of my 1975 trip- we covered over 5,000 miles on that occasion.

I am biased towards the Austin Ten. Relatively cheaper than it's bigger and smaller brothers, available in five basic body shapes from real upright vintage to early streamlined and with saloon, tourer and cabriolet versions within that range.
Also, as I know you like to "tinker", they are very tinker-worthy. Smile

You could probably get a late 30's Minx for that money, also the little ford 7Y eight is a nice little car. The Austin's are more abundant so you'd fare better with them for spares etc.

As suggested a small hp car from the likes of Austin, Morris, Hillman or Singer might get under your budget cap. I'm not sure you'd get a Model A in the UK for that kind of money.

Easiest in terms of finding parts would probably be an Austin 7 Ruby, although personally I prefer the earlier, chrome rad, Austins such as the 10/4. You'd struggle to get a 7 box saloon (chrome rad) in budget, anything remotely near usable anyway Smile

Morris 8s are popular, and quite a few belong to forum members here, so it may be worth having a shufty at the various threads residing in the Morris section.

Hi Richard. I have followed the progress with your Alldays, since early on.

It seems that no matter how many problems were thrown at you, persistence and tolerance won through.

My idea, and I can hear some members reaching for their smelling salts, takes a leaf out of Jason's book with his Alvis.

How about something such as one of the large engine and built like a brick ** out house sedans and building a one off low loader unit and trailer that would carry the Alldays, perhaps go really extreme and put twin rear axles on the unit.
