I quite enjoy Vintage Prescott and some of the other historic events there and the same for Shelsley Walsh. Both have a friendly, old fashioned atmosphere and lots of old cars to see.
I'm not so keen on Castle Combe becaise you're so far away from the action and the races are boring with the possible exception of Healey 3000s, some of which seem to be driven by maniacs. They're quite fun.
At Goodwood Festival of Speed I felt I was a pleb paying for celebs to party, didn't enjoy it at all, but I have been to the Revival. |

I enjoy historic motor racing, and a lot of that is because it all seems to be more accessible. Some of that will be down to venue of course, but I'm hearing all sorts of stuff about F1 and BTCC in terms of being hard to photograph in the paddock, for example. I've done the Oulton Park Gold Cup, Donington Historic Festival, some VSCC stuff at Loton Park and it's all been quite enjoyable.
I do have some stuff on video or DVD from the seventies. In comparison to a lot on here I guess mine would be more "not terribly recent" rather than "historic" as such. |

The VSCC events at Goodwood motor racing circuit are a good way of spending your day...... informal and often free to spectate too
This was at one of those events in November 2011

I think I would enjoy this and I have been meaning to get an event on my calendar for a few years now. Strictly spectator level though.
Pembrey or Castle Combe would not be too far for me and it is 50s & 60's saloons that I would look out for. |

We love it, Cadwell Park being our favourite circuit, we go to the VSCC meeting every June and to Mallory Park and Oulton Park too when we can. Apart from VSCC racing we sometimes watch 50s and 60s saloon racing (the Masters series) and we have friends who race a Riley 1.5.
I've also been to Spa and Chimay, both great venues though the latter is better known for its beer these days...
Vintage and historic racing is the best track action by far! _________________ David

Vintage bike and Morgan racing for me. Especially the sidecars, can't beat the big-wheelers. _________________ KA

I prepare a few cars that run in historic race series like Martini Trophy and Masters, mainly from the 60's along with a lot of more modern single seater, sports and gt cars. Have to say, I do prefer the historics more in some ways with each car having and individual story of who owned it and its various successes, along with the challenge of finding or making parts to keep it looking period correct |

I enjoy watching a bit now and then ! They used to hold a meeting in one of my local towns a few years ago and if I hadn't gone I would never have seen one of our local millionaires sliding an 8 litre Bentley around a right angle bend on every lap, something to remember I can assure you. What I wasn't so pleased to see was at the vintage hillclimb when an owner lost control of his Mk 1 Zephyr based special and totally wrecked it. I had to feel sorry for him but if you race something its going to get broken that's a fact of racing. |

That's the only problem I have with historic racing - what looks 'period correct' very often isn't mechanically... _________________ David
