|
|
Hi all,
I went to start the Morris 8 today but initially only got the starter motor spinning but not engaging, after a few more pulls of the starter over a few minutes I eventually got the starter spinning and engaging and started the engine. After a while I stopped the engine and attempted to start the car again but again only had the motor spinning and not engaging. This fault seems to be intermittent, I have looked at all the cable connections, they all seem to be tight. I am recharging the battery tonight as I though if might be a lack of power to get it spinning fast enough, will give another go tomorrow but could it be anything else?
What could cause this intermittent problem?.

Paul,
Already answered on the MR forum. For the benefit of anyone else who may be interested, it's most likely that the Bendix is gummed up with oil that's leaked from the rear of the crankshaft. Easily cured (temporarily) by a squirt of petrol.

Thanks everyone for all your invaluable help. With all the knowledge from you all I now have a fully working starter. I took out the starter and gave the parts a good clean and put a bit of graphite powder on, this in conjunction with a fully charged battery has sorted out the problem.
Unfortunately now another problem have raised their ugly head. I will be starting a new thread to explain my predicament.
