I have an engine I think came off a Shay. It is a 2 stroke with the shaft pointing downwards. _________________ Due to the onset of my mid eighties I'm no longer sprightly and rarely seen in my Austin special. I have written a book though. https://amzn.eu/d/7rwRRqL |

Thread resurrection time ...
While having a birthday is always exciting ... putting that momentous occasion into the shade yesterday, was the chance discovery of the following push lawnmower at a local car boot sale. Bought for a very modest sum, it not only looks great with its cast wheels and gear-driven blades, it also operates superbly.
Curiously there's no maker's name anywhere, although perhaps researching the evident patent numbers might shed light on things.
The old Atco Standard, bought from an occasional visitor to this online parish, resides in the corner of the garage. I feel that a firing-up session is long overdue, it'll be timed to avoid any evidence of washing line activity in the area.
Also, a couple of photos showing the roller we bought a year or three back. It was produced by Baxendale & Co. Limited of Manchester.

As the occasional visitor who provided the Atco Standard Rick you should get going behind it - the grass growing season is nearly over! _________________ Jonathan Butler

Just overheard a conversation down the other end of the office, a chap was saying about his Suffolk Punch lawn mower.
That brought back memories. When I was a young lad my Grandfather had lovely large lawn and I remember those summer evenings when he'd roll the Suffolk Punch out and would let us have a go on the large lawn. I remember as a youngster how it would really pull you along! _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

I've now sold off/given away my stationary engine collection, all except a Bamford corn mill and a shaft drive Lister D in need of restoration. I think there may be a couple of Petter A types there as well. Down in the corner of the paddock there is a Blackstone tractor-pulled roller, too.
I really must sort them all out one day! |
