Has anyone ever found anything interesting under the seats etc of their newly purchased car ?. A few years ago I bought an old car and found a large bowie knife under the back seat, since then I've found various old coins and sockets but nothing really exciting. Anyone else found anything ? _________________ Thirty years selling imperial hand tools for old machinery(Now happily retired). |

In the back of the Dodge truck, I found an old copper printing plate. On it is a side view of an engine-assisted bicycle, maybe from the 1920s or 1930s.
Another lucky find once was a black box containing a varied selection of motoring badges (AA, RAC etc), plus a few mascots, from the late 1920s. That was probably the most interesting discovery.
Usually I just find old pens, and rodent-chewed newspapers

Way back in the sixties I had a friend with a DB4 Aston Martin, it's SU petrol pump packed up and I agreed to fix it. To get to the retaining nuts I had to peel back soaking wet carpets and under one of them I found £1,100 in notes! he'd won it on a horse and it was as much as the car had cost then. |

Not inside the car, but certainly under the bonnet. A long blade screwdriver of good quality left in a company car after servicing, and an extendible inspection mirror that's been very useful. Considering that the latter had been the property of an auto-electrician who charged me $400 for making the car worse I had no compunction about keeping it.

A friend of mine found a large white cat under the bonnet of his battered old S class Merc.
I say "found" but that is not quite true. I watched him get in the car and start it up. I heard a clanking noise then saw this creature appear from under the car flying up the road at some speed and fine streams of white fur drifting through the air.
He drove off quite oblivious of the whole thing..... Probably shamefully I was pi$$ing myself with laughter for a good few minutes afterwards. I did not mention this to him and he is probably still quite unaware if it! |

Nearly fifty years ago I gave my 1939 Series E Morris a tidy up of the valves. While working under the left hand mudguard I noticed something strange lodged between the torsion bar and the body. It turned out to be a very nice cold chisel I still have it and still use it. Very handy tool! _________________ Dane- roverdriver but not a Viking. |

In similar vain to Dane but more found in a tyre rather than in a car, I got a puncture once caused by an Allen key. I still use it occasionally.

My Father used to run a Dairy business, which he took over from my Grandfather in about 1965 I think.
Soon after one of the Milkmen complained that his van steering shook terribly at any thing over 20mph.
Noticing that the tyres were almost worn right through, my Dad changed them himself and found a hessian door mat inside one of them,
put there by my Grandfather when the tyre wore through to the tube |

On of my Grandfathers briefly worked as a driver for a few years after the last war. It was very upmarket, he drove a Humber Pullman.
One chap who he drove for one day left an African carved wooden rifle on the back seat. Being a child I was fascinated, then one day when I was older he gave it to me.
I still have it packed away. _________________ Various Rootes Vehicles. |

Not in a car I bought but in a VW camper I once hired; a bottle of scotch, bottle of gin and a bag of dog biscuits... _________________ David

In a 1965 Ford Anglia... I had stuffed it up the side of a telegraph pole and written it off, so decided to cut it up for scrap. Taking apart the rear quarter, behind all the trim was a tin of baked beans. I assume that was intended for the lunch of someone on the assembly line. _________________ Evans Waterless Coolants

Some years ago, I was welding a rear wheel arch repair section onto a Mk1 Ford Escort, and when i was trimming off what was left of the od one, then stripped out the inner noise deadening, I found a rusty tin of new potatoes, wrapped in a newspaper dated 1969, same age as the car. Almost building a meal here! _________________ KA
